Mark Lajal and Roman Safiullin meet for the first time in the opening round of Roland Garros qualifying on outdoor red clay. The Estonian Lajal, who has compiled strong results primarily on hard courts and holds limited prior experience on the slower surface, faces a Russian opponent with greater overall ATP pedigree and a career-best ranking of No. 36. Safiullin enters with solid recent momentum, posting a 9-1 record across his last ten matches and showing reliable return pressure in baseline exchanges. Both players seek advancement toward the main draw, where clay-court endurance and consistency from the back of the court typically decide early-round outcomes in the qualifying draw.
