Gold (XAU/USD) has rallied more than 9% in August 2026 to trade near $4,397/oz as of August 17, supported by July CPI rising 3.4% year-over-year—below prior readings—and softer producer prices that trimmed September FOMC rate-hike odds to roughly 31–35% on the CME FedWatch Tool. Traders are weighing a potential hold at the current 3.50–3.75% Fed funds target against three FOMC members’ hawkish dissent, with real yields and the U.S. dollar remaining key headwinds. Geopolitical tensions and central-bank flows continue to underpin physical demand, while analyst year-end 2026 targets cluster between $4,400 and $4,900 after earlier forecasts were trimmed. The August CPI release and September FOMC dot plot remain the next major catalysts that could shift implied probabilities for month-end levels.
