Gold trades near $4,050 per ounce as of July 24, 2026, down roughly 28% from the January record high near $5,600 amid a stronger U.S. dollar, elevated Treasury yields, and repriced Federal Reserve rate-hike expectations. Hawkish policy signals, including potential September tightening priced at over 50% odds by some measures, have weighed on the metal despite ongoing central bank purchases and lingering fiscal uncertainties. Key near-term catalysts include the July 28–29 FOMC meeting and any follow-through from recent inflation prints, which could shift implied probabilities around monetary easing versus tightening. Traders are monitoring technical support near $3,900–$4,000 and resistance above $4,150 for signs of momentum shifts in the volatile week ahead.
