EWY trades near $180 as of mid-August 2026 after surging over 80% year-to-date on AI-fueled semiconductor demand before peaking near $221 in June and correcting more than 30%. The pullback stems from disappointing SK Hynix results, profit-taking, and doubts about sustained memory-chip momentum, with semiconductors comprising roughly 42% of South Korean exports. Trader sentiment reflects this concentration risk alongside sensitivity to U.S. monetary policy, Treasury yields, and global tech appetite. The Korean won’s path and any near-term Fed signals or additional chipmaker data could shift implied odds for the week’s price action.
