Roman Safiullin enters the Nottingham 2 Challenger first-round matchup as the clear favorite against lower-ranked Brit Oliver Tarvet, reflecting the substantial gap in ATP experience and current form on grass. Safiullin arrives fresh from Stuttgart grass-court action, where he advanced through qualifying before a competitive three-set loss to big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, and he recently captured the Oeiras title. Tarvet, ranked outside the top 300, has shown promise in recent Challenger events including a win at Ilkley but faces a steep test against Safiullin’s superior baseline consistency, serve effectiveness on the fast surface, and proven results at this level. Home-crowd support and any late grass adjustments could provide Tarvet an opening, though the Russian’s overall pedigree shapes trader consensus around his strong implied probability.
