In Louisiana's 5th congressional district, an open seat after incumbent Julia Letlow's Senate bid, the November 3 jungle primary requires a majority for an outright win or else advances the top two candidates to a December 12 runoff. Recent redistricting following the Supreme Court ruling in Louisiana v. Callais shifted the race to a single-ballot format with the August 7 filing deadline locking in a crowded field of Republicans including Blake Miguez, Michael Echols, Rick Edmonds, Stewart Cathey, and Gabe Firment alongside Democratic entrants. An April 2026 poll showed the leader at 42% amid fragmentation, and with no subsequent consolidation around one frontrunner, trader consensus reflects the structural barriers to reaching 50% on election day in this heavily Republican-leaning district.
