Silver (XAG/USD) has climbed sharply to around $65.90 per ounce on August 17, 2026, posting weekly gains exceeding 2% amid softer-than-expected July CPI data that tempered near-term Federal Reserve rate-hike expectations. Persistent structural supply deficits, driven by robust industrial demand from solar photovoltaics, electric vehicles, and electronics, continue to underpin prices alongside safe-haven flows tied to Middle East geopolitical tensions and energy-price volatility. Recent profit-taking and firmer core PPI readings have introduced short-term consolidation, while Treasury yields near 4.7% and dollar strength remain key headwinds. Traders are monitoring upcoming U.S. economic releases and any further Fed communications for shifts in real-rate expectations that could influence the metal’s trajectory through month-end.
