Ben Shelton enters this first-round clay-court clash at the Hamburg European Open as the clear favorite, holding the No. 6 ATP ranking and a 17-6 record in 2026 while preparing for the French Open. The 23-year-old left-hander brings superior power and athleticism to the matchup, though his clay-court results remain less dominant than on hard courts. Marcos Giron, ranked No. 77 and entering as a lucky loser, has shown resilience in recent qualifying wins but holds a career-high of only No. 37 and has lost three of his last four matches. Their head-to-head stands at 1-1, with both prior meetings on hard surfaces. Traders are likely weighing Shelton’s overall class and momentum against the slower clay conditions and Giron’s potential to extend rallies.
