President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed renaming Immigration and Customs Enforcement to National Immigration and Customs Enforcement, creating the acronym NICE, first via a late-April Truth Social post and again in a May speech at the Rose Garden Club Dinner. The proposal originated as a social media suggestion aimed at softening the agency's public image during expanded immigration enforcement operations. Any formal name change would require congressional legislation rather than an executive order alone. White House border czar Tom Homan has expressed opposition, while the administration has pursued parallel efforts to highlight positive agent interactions. No legislative action has advanced as of mid-May, leaving the outcome dependent on whether Congress takes up the rebranding amid broader border security priorities.
