Recent S&P 500 levels near 7,500 reflect sustained AI capital expenditure momentum, with hyperscalers projected to spend over $670 billion in 2026, driving broad earnings beats and pushing the index to multiple record highs earlier in June. The June 16-17 FOMC meeting, the first under Chair Kevin Warsh, held the federal funds rate steady while updated projections signaled firmer policy amid May inflation at 3.8% headline, elevating market-implied odds of potential 2026 rate hikes. Traders will focus on Thursday’s May PCE release and flash PMI data for the week of June 22 as key near-term catalysts that could influence short-term volatility around current index levels.
