Silver (XAG/USD) trades near $66.30 after retreating from a brief test above $70 late last week, as Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish Jackson Hole remarks elevated September rate-hike odds to roughly 50-57 percent and strengthened the dollar. The pullback followed Treasury announcements of expanded long-term bond buybacks that had earlier lowered yields and supported precious metals. Traders are now focused on the week’s labor-market data—ADP private payrolls, JOLTS openings, ISM manufacturing and services surveys, and especially Friday’s August nonfarm payrolls—which will refine market-implied odds for near-term monetary policy. Persistent structural deficits from by-product mine supply and robust industrial demand in solar, EVs, and electronics continue to underpin the longer-term bid, though short-term direction hinges on whether incoming employment figures ease or reinforce expectations for tighter policy.
