This market will resolve to "Yes" if Sanae Takaichi meets with Xi Jinping between market creation and the listed date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". A meeting is defined as any encounter where both Takaichi and Jinping are present and interact with each other in person. An exchange of words, handshake, direct conversation, or other clear personal interaction between the named individuals will qualify as a meeting. Merely standing in proximity, making eye contact, or being present in the same room or event without direct interaction will not qualify. The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.**Japan-China bilateral relations remain strained under Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, limiting prospects for a second in-person meeting with President Xi Jinping by December 31, 2026.** Takaichi and Xi held their only summit to date on the sidelines of the October 2025 APEC meeting in South Korea, where they reaffirmed interest in a “mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests” while discussing rare earth exports, security concerns, and crisis management. Since then, ties have deteriorated amid Takaichi’s remarks on Taiwan, Chinese retaliation including recalled pandas and canceled flights, and broader disputes over the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands and regional security. Takaichi’s LDP secured a supermajority in the February 2026 snap election, strengthening her domestic position but coinciding with continued diplomatic friction. Japan has sought another bilateral encounter at the November 2026 APEC summit hosted by China in Shenzhen, yet analysts assess the chances as low given the current impasse and China’s foreign policy priorities ahead of its 2027 party congress. Upcoming multilateral forums and any shifts in U.S.-China or U.S.-Japan dynamics could still create openings, though trader pricing reflects persistent barriers to a prompt follow-up meeting.
