Neymar’s ongoing grade 2 calf injury, sustained in mid-May while at Santos, has sidelined the 34-year-old for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup opener against Morocco and cast serious doubt on his availability for subsequent group-stage matches. With a recovery window of two to three weeks and no recent senior appearances for the Seleção since 2023, his expected minutes remain severely limited even if he returns. In contrast, Vinicius Jr. enters the tournament in peak form after a strong 2025-26 club season with Real Madrid, already contributing a goal in the opening fixture and operating as the primary attacking focal point alongside Raphinha. The 25-year-old’s consistent fitness, high work rate, and established role in Carlo Ancelotti’s system underpin the overwhelming market consensus favoring him to outscore Neymar across the tournament.
