Ben Shelton enters this Stuttgart Open second-round grass-court matchup as the clear favorite at No. 5 in the rankings, holding a 3-1 head-to-head edge that includes a three-set win over Giron on clay in Hamburg last month. The top seed received a first-round bye and brings strong recent form after claiming the Munich title earlier in 2026, though his clay results were otherwise mixed ahead of the grass swing. Marcos Giron, ranked No. 88, has shown competitive resolve in prior meetings and boasts a proven record on grass, including a past Newport title, which could narrow the gap in this surface-specific encounter. The all-American clash features Shelton’s power baseline game against Giron’s court coverage and experience in quicker conditions.
