Recent April 2026 CPI data at 1.2% year-over-year, exceeding consensus estimates of 0.8%, has anchored trader expectations for China’s full-year 2026 inflation within the 1.1–1.5% range. Elevated energy and transport costs linked to Middle East supply disruptions have lifted non-food prices, while persistent weakness in pork, vegetables, and domestic demand continues to suppress the food component. Producer prices have also turned positive for the first time in over three years, reflecting imported cost pressures. With core inflation holding near 1.2% and the People’s Bank of China maintaining an accommodative stance amid subdued growth targets of 4.5–5.0%, market-implied odds favor a mild uptick rather than sustained deflation or higher readings above 2%.
