Google’s latest Gemini 3.1 Pro and related variants have posted verified scores near 38 percent on Epoch AI’s FrontierMath benchmark of unpublished research-level math problems, trailing OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 at 47.6 percent on the current leaderboard. Traders are watching for any official Gemini update or “Deep Think” scaling that could close the gap before the June 30 resolution, especially given the benchmark’s recent internal review that flagged errors in roughly one-third of problems. Historical release cadence suggests Google could ship incremental gains, yet persistent gaps on Tier 4 problems and rapid OpenAI progress create the main uncertainty for whether any Gemini model reaches the 40 percent or higher thresholds priced in the market.
