Alibaba’s recent earnings report highlighted a 38% surge in cloud and AI revenue driven by enterprise adoption of its Qwen model family, which has exceeded one billion cumulative downloads and spawned hundreds of thousands of derivatives. This infrastructure push, including new data centers built on domestically designed Zhenwu chips and reorganization under a dedicated AI hub, has reinforced trader consensus around Alibaba’s 53% probability as the top Chinese AI company by end of May. Baidu maintains its 38.5% share through continued integration of ERNIE 5.0 across search and agentic applications, though its momentum appears steadier than explosive. Zhipu AI at 5.5% benefits from inclusion on Time’s inaugural AI A-list and its GLM-5 release trained on Huawei hardware, while ByteDance, DeepSeek, and others trail due to narrower recent benchmark gains or ecosystem scale. Upcoming quarterly updates and model iterations through late May could still shift positioning among these established players.
