Guinea-Bissau’s upcoming December 2026 legislative vote occurs under transitional military rule following the 2025 coup and a newly approved constitution that shrinks the National People’s Assembly from 102 to 65 seats while altering constituency boundaries. The recent referendum, backed by roughly 70 percent of participants despite a boycott by major opposition groups such as the PAIGC, has introduced greater presidential authority over cabinet formation and parliamentary dissolution, heightening uncertainty about how power will be distributed among competing lists. With no party exceeding low-20s implied probability in the fragmented field, trader consensus reflects limited consolidation, historical multiparty competition, and questions over participation rules, residency requirements, and potential military or alliance alignments that could still shift momentum before polling.
