Current National Weather Service and NOAA model consensus points to scattered showers and thunderstorms on September 3 moderating peak temperatures into the upper 80s to low 90s across the Chicago area, with southwest flow and elevated humidity limiting full daytime heating while lake breezes further cap readings near the shoreline. This aligns with the market-implied clustering around 88–91 °F as traders weigh ensemble guidance showing modest cooling from the preceding heat wave. Key variables include the precise timing and coverage of convection, which could suppress highs below 88 °F or allow brief clearing to push readings toward 92 °F, alongside model spread on boundary-layer moisture and wind shifts. Historical September 3 averages near 80 °F underscore the above-normal but not extreme outlook ahead of updated model runs.
