The race for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Croat seat in the tripartite Presidency remains tightly balanced ahead of the October 4, 2026 general election because HDZ BiH candidate Darijana Filipović consolidates nationalist support while Democratic Front’s Slaven Kovačević draws cross-ethnic backing in the Federation. HDZ BiH formally nominated Filipović in mid-April and has pressed for a unified Croat list to limit vote fragmentation, a longstanding concern tied to the current electoral rules that allow Bosniak voters to influence the outcome. Incumbent Željko Komšić’s endorsement of Kovačević sustains the latter’s competitive position, while the Petorka coalition’s selection of Zdenko Lučić in early May introduces a modest split among smaller Croat parties. The election commission’s formal scheduling of the vote for October 4 has focused attention on these dynamics without shifting the narrow trader consensus between the two frontrunners.
