The 2026 Alaska gubernatorial primary features an open seat created by term limits on incumbent Republican Governor Mike Dunleavy, drawing more than 15 candidates into a nonpartisan top-four primary set for August 18. A crowded Republican field including Click Bishop, Dave Bronson, Adam Crum, Nancy Dahlstrom, and others risks vote fragmentation, while Democrat Tom Begich leads recent April polling at 19-22% among likely voters. Early fundraising reports from February highlighted self-funded efforts by several Republicans and Begich's strong donor base, followed by the first candidate debate in May. The filing deadline of June 1 and subsequent campaign events will shape final ballot positioning ahead of the primary that determines the four general-election contenders under ranked-choice voting.
