The crowded field of 17 candidates in Alaska’s open nonpartisan top-four primary, set for August 18, has kept first-place probabilities tightly clustered as traders weigh fragmented support among Republicans such as Bernadette Wilson, Click Bishop, Dave Bronson, and Treg Taylor alongside Democrats Tom Begich and Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. Recent July candidate forums and a late-July Anchorage meet-and-greet highlighted accessibility efforts without producing clear separation, while polling averages show Begich ahead but with several others within striking distance under ranked-choice dynamics. The four-advancement rule and absence of a dominant incumbent successor amplify uncertainty, with late shifts in turnout or endorsements among key voting blocs the main factors that could reorder the finish.
