Recent U.S.-Canada interest rate differentials and labor market data dominate USD/CAD pricing, with the pair trading near 1.39 amid expectations of further Federal Reserve easing outpacing Bank of Canada moves. Stronger Canadian employment and GDP readings in Q2 have narrowed yield gaps and supported the loonie, while softer U.S. payrolls reduced near-term hike odds. Oil prices and August 19 tariff implementation add volatility, as do inflation trajectories and global risk sentiment. Consensus forecasts point to gradual CAD appreciation toward 1.36–1.38 by year-end, though trade frictions and commodity swings remain key swing factors for any 2026 extremes.
