Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro faces trial in New York federal court on narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation, weapons trafficking, and related charges stemming from a 2020 US indictment superseding in 2026, but traders price an 88.5% chance he will not be found guilty on all counts. Following his January not guilty plea and a March 26 hearing where the judge rejected defense motions to dismiss over legal funding disputes, the case remains in pre-trial phase with his next appearance set for June 30. A late April ruling granted Maduro and wife Cilia Flores—also charged and pleading not guilty—access to Venezuelan assets for defense, bolstering their strategy amid the narcoterrorism statute's historically limited conviction rates and potential cooperating witnesses like a former general. This procedural progress underscores evidentiary hurdles to a clean sweep conviction.
