**Lindsay Clancy’s mistrial on September 4, 2026, anchors the 91.5% “No” consensus on prison time in 2026.** The Plymouth County jury deadlocked after roughly 38 hours over seven days, with reports indicating an 11-1 lean toward finding her not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis. She admitted strangling her three children in 2023 but her defense centered on severe mental illness rather than intent, a narrative that has drawn significant public and media attention to maternal mental health issues. Clancy remains committed to Tewksbury State Hospital without bail, and no verdict or sentencing has occurred. Prosecutors have not yet committed to a retrial; a status conference is scheduled for September 29, and any new proceedings would likely begin no earlier than late 2026 or 2027 given court scheduling and the defense’s push for speed. Historical patterns in high-profile Massachusetts cases and the hung-jury outcome make a swift conviction and prison sentence within the calendar year improbable. Realistic scenarios that could shift sentiment include an unexpectedly accelerated retrial with a different jury composition or a plea deal that includes prison time, though both face steep procedural and evidentiary hurdles. The market reflects trader recognition that the case’s resolution timeline, combined with the defense’s strong showing, places any prison sentence well beyond 2026.

This market will resolve to "Yes" if Lindsay Clancy is sentenced to any term of incarceration stemming from the ongoing Commonwealth v. Lindsay Clancy case by either December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET or, in the event of a mistrial, by the end of any retrial (including possible sentencing proceedings) that begins before that date. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Any custodial sentence will qualify regardless of its length, regardless of the offense it is imposed for, and regardless of whether it is satisfied in whole or in part by credit for time already served. A sentence that is entirely suspended, a sentence of probation carrying no term of incarceration, a fine alone, or an order of commitment to a mental health facility will not qualify.
If this case ends due to a dismissal, or results in any situation in which no sentence is imposed by the court, or results in a verdict of Not Guilty on all charges (including by reason of lack of criminal responsibility due to mental illness), this market will resolve to "No". A plea agreement will qualify to resolve this market "Yes" only if it results in a sentence that includes a term of incarceration.
If all charges against Clancy are dropped, this market will immediately resolve to "No".
This market will resolve according to the initial sentence imposed in this case. Any appeals, or any later modification, reduction, or vacating of the sentence, will have no bearing on the resolution of this market.
The primary resolution source will be an official judgment delivered by the ruling court; however, other credible reporting may be used.
