Incumbent Republican Dan Patrick secured his party's nomination for a fourth term with over 84 percent in the March 2026 primary, positioning him as the clear frontrunner in Texas's Republican-leaning electorate for the November 3 general election. Democratic nominee Vikki Goodwin, a state representative who prevailed in her May runoff, faces structural headwinds in a state where no Democrat has won statewide office in nearly three decades. Recent August polling shows Patrick ahead or narrowly competitive, reflecting traders' assessment of incumbency advantages, Senate leadership role, and partisan baseline. Minor-party candidates remain distant factors in the race.
