Argentina’s official USD/ARS rate, currently near 1,510–1,515 following modest monthly depreciation under the BCRA’s inflation-indexed crawling band, reflects President Milei’s emphasis on a strong peso to anchor disinflation. Interventions via dollar-linked instruments and futures have limited spot depreciation to roughly 3.7% year-to-date despite 21.3% cumulative inflation through August, keeping the rate well below the band ceiling near 1,900. Analyst forecasts have converged on levels around 1,600–1,630 by December 2026, aligning with the market’s 73.5% implied probability on 1,600+, while tighter fiscal targets and IMF-supported reserve accumulation reinforce expectations of continued gradual adjustment rather than sharp moves.
