Rashid Johnson's 2014 “Anxious Man,” a large-scale work in white ceramic tile, wax, and spray enamel, heads to Sotheby's Contemporary Curated auction on October 7 with a 400,000–600,000 USD estimate. Trader sentiment centers on recent results for the artist's “Anxious Men” series, where major drawings and mixed-media pieces have achieved hammer prices from the mid-five to low-six figures, often meeting or exceeding estimates amid consistent sell-through rates. Smaller editions and prints trade in the low-to-mid five figures, providing benchmarks that keep probabilities for thresholds above 500,000 USD near even. With the sale just weeks away, final bidding momentum and any last-minute comparable results will determine whether the work lands in the upper or lower half of its range.
