Recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have elevated energy prices, driving Eurozone HICP inflation to 2.9% in July 2026 from 2.8% in June, with energy inflation accelerating to 10.3%. This surge underpins ECB staff projections for 3.0% average annual inflation in 2026, revised upward from prior estimates due to persistent energy and indirect effects on core components. Market-implied odds, with 3.1%+ holding a 66.1% share versus 20.6% for 2.8–3.0%, aggregate trader views on these supply shocks amid ECB rate hikes and anchored longer-term expectations near 2%. Upcoming August data and September policy decisions represent key near-term catalysts that could refine the path.
