Recent forecasts from NOAA and regional models show a shift to northerly winds and a weak frontal passage on September 13 that will limit daytime heating in Chicago, favoring a high in the low-to-mid 70s amid partly to mostly cloudy skies and a 20-30% chance of light showers. This cooling follows several days of above-average warmth driven by southwesterly flow, with lake-modified air and potential afternoon convection adding uncertainty to the precise peak. Trader consensus reflected in the near-even split between the 72-73°F and 74-75°F bins captures the narrow range of outcomes still possible depending on the exact timing of cloud cover and precipitation, consistent with historical September variability around the 77°F climatological average.
