Recent National Weather Service guidance pegs Chicago’s September 10 high near 74 °F under post-frontal northeasterly flow, yet market-implied odds cluster tightly on 76–79 °F. The narrow spread reflects lingering uncertainty in boundary-layer mixing and the precise strength of cool-air advection behind Wednesday’s front. Northeast winds of 5–10 mph limit daytime warming by drawing stable air off Lake Michigan while suppressing convective mixing, keeping maximum temperatures below the 78 °F climatological average. Ensemble model runs show modest spread in 850 hPa temperatures and cloud cover, producing the close contest between the 78–79 °F and 76–77 °F bins. Final NWS verification at O’Hare will resolve the market once afternoon observations are complete.
