Romania's fractured parliament following the May 5 no-confidence vote that ousted Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has created a fluid environment for selecting a successor, with President Nicușor Dan conducting ongoing consultations to identify a candidate who can secure a stable pro-European majority. Trader consensus currently favors independent or technocratic figures such as Delia Velculescu, reflecting emphasis on fiscal expertise amid ongoing efforts to reduce the budget deficit and maintain EU fund flows. Party-aligned contenders like Sorin Grindeanu and Radu Burnete trail due to coalition fractures involving the PSD, PNL, USR, and UDMR, while the wide spread across more than two dozen names signals uncertainty over which individual can navigate parliamentary negotiations without risking another collapse. Key differentiators include demonstrated ability to build cross-party support and alignment with pro-EU reforms; consolidation behind one outcome would likely require explicit backing from major groups during the current consultation phase or a clear path to confirmation.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
