Recent polling has propelled former U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra into the lead for first place in California's June top-two primary, with his support among Democratic voters rising sharply in the latest Emerson College survey. This momentum stems from Becerra's established name recognition across the state and a fragmented Democratic field that includes Tom Steyer, Katie Porter, and Matt Mahan. Republican Steve Hilton remains competitive in second, bolstered by President Trump's endorsement and consistent backing in conservative-leaning areas, while Chad Bianco trails further back. Traders appear to view Becerra's recent gains as decisive for securing the top spot, though the crowded ballot and undecided voters introduce uncertainty ahead of early voting.
