The recent mistrial in Lindsay Clancy’s first-degree murder trial, declared September 4 after a hung jury following roughly 38 hours of deliberations, has left the case without a conviction and shifted focus to Plymouth County prosecutors’ next steps. Eleven of twelve jurors reportedly leaned toward finding her not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis, though one holdout prevented a unanimous verdict on the 2023 killings of her three children. Clancy remains held at Tewksbury State Hospital as the defense prepares a motion for a directed acquittal and a status hearing is set for September 29. Any retrial, plea negotiations, or potential civil commitment proceedings would unfold against ongoing public debate over maternal mental health and legal standards for insanity defenses, with no resolution expected before late fall at the earliest.

The primary resolution source will be an official judgment delivered by the ruling court; however, other credible reporting may be used.
