Shipping data shows vessels continuing to pass, often rerouted or avoiding specific flags, while Houthi spokespeople explicitly deny a full strait closure and limit the action to Saudi interests amid retaliation for airstrikes and port restrictions. Regional escalation tied to Iran-backed operations, the ongoing Strait of Hormuz disruptions, and responses from naval coalitions have sustained elevated risk assessments for commercial traffic. Key variables include any further missile or drone incidents, Saudi or coalition countermeasures, shifts in broader U.S.-Iran or Israel-related tensions, and measurable recovery in transit counts that could influence trader views on whether conditions meet an "effective closure" threshold.
