Recent polling and campaign activity in the Makerfield by-election, scheduled for 18 June 2026, show Labour’s Andy Burnham maintaining a narrow lead over Reform UK’s Robert Kenyon in what has become a two-candidate contest. Kenyon, a local plumber and Reform councillor, benefits from Reform’s strong performance in recent Wigan-area council elections and voter frustration with the national Labour government on cost-of-living and immigration issues. This positioning makes Kenyon the clear frontrunner to finish second if Burnham secures first place, while other candidates trail far behind in both surveys and betting markets. The short campaign window limits scope for major shifts before polling day.
