South Korea's EWY ETF, which tracks equities heavily weighted toward semiconductors like Samsung and SK Hynix, has posted exceptional 2026 gains exceeding 100% year-to-date amid surging AI-driven demand for high-bandwidth memory chips and a weaker Korean won. As of late June, shares trade near $198–205 after hitting a 52-week high above $220 earlier in the month, reflecting elevated volatility tied to global tech sentiment, export data, and monetary policy divergence. With the Bank of Korea holding its base rate at 2.5% and only routine Treasury auctions scheduled for the week of June 29, near-term moves will likely hinge on broader risk appetite, U.S. equity performance, and any fresh semiconductor supply-chain updates rather than domestic catalysts. Trader positioning in related prediction markets prices in continued momentum but accounts for the ETF's history of sharp swings around global macro shifts.
