Recent polls through early May position Iván Cepeda as the clear first-round leader ahead of the May 31 vote, leaving a tight contest for second place between right-wing outsider Abelardo de la Espriella and center-right Democratic Center senator Paloma Valencia. De la Espriella has consolidated support among voters prioritizing security and anti-narcotics measures, drawing from fragmented conservative and independent blocs in surveys such as those from AtlasIntel and Guarumo/Ecoanalítica. Valencia has gained ground but remains behind in second-choice preferences and overall momentum. This polling pattern, combined with pre-election violence heightening focus on law-and-order platforms, underpins the trader consensus reflected in current market pricing for the second-place outcome.
