Recent polling trends position Abelardo de la Espriella as the clear frontrunner for second place behind Iván Cepeda in Colombia’s May 31 presidential first round, with trader consensus reflecting his consistent advantage in surveys over the past month. De la Espriella, running as an independent with hardline security proposals modeled on regional leaders, has consolidated support among right-leaning voters seeking a break from the current administration. Paloma Valencia gained momentum from her March primary victory within the center-right coalition and backing from former President Álvaro Uribe, yet multiple April and May surveys show her support trailing de la Espriella’s by several points. Cepeda’s lead in overall voting intention narrows the contest for the runoff berth to these two main challengers, while other candidates register negligible shares.
