The tight contest in Montarville reflects competitive provincial polling trends between the Coalition avenir Québec and Parti québécois, with late-August 2026 projections placing CAQ support at 35% and PQ at 32% in the riding. Incumbent Nathalie Roy, the CAQ MNA since 2012 and National Assembly president, faces PQ candidate Jean-François Cloutier, Liberal Mathieu Lavoie, Québec solidaire’s Ginette Langlois, and additional contenders ahead of the October 5 general election. The race remains close due to broader shifts in voter preferences, the CAQ’s declining standing, and the field of established challengers in a suburban Montreal riding. Candidate nominations, the August 27 writ drop, and the September 17 deadline sustain uncertainty, with final separation likely to hinge on turnout and late-campaign dynamics among the main parties.
