Recent unification talks have reshaped the Ulsan mayoral race ahead of the June 3 vote. On May 15 the Democratic Party and Progressive Party agreed to select a single candidate through a 100 percent opinion-poll primary between Kim Sang-wook and Kim Jong-hoon, scheduled for May 23–24, after earlier withdrawals consolidated the progressive side. Early-May surveys already showed the two progressive candidates combining for roughly 47 percent against People Power Party nominee Kim Doo-kyum’s 37 percent, placing the contest inside the margin of error once unified. Traders now price Kim Sang-wook at 57.5 percent, reflecting the expected transfer of Progressive support and the structural advantage this bloc consolidation creates against the conservative and independent fields.
