Mary Peltola holds a commanding lead in trader assessments for the August 18 nonpartisan top-four primary because of her substantial fundraising edge, prior statewide victories as Alaska’s at-large representative, and high name recognition in a crowded field that includes incumbent Sen. Dan S. Sullivan and more than a dozen lesser-known candidates. Recent campaign finance reports show her raising over three times as much as Sullivan since April, while polling and media coverage have centered on her as the most viable challenger. The presence of a second Republican named Dan Sullivan on the ballot adds minor confusion but does not alter the expected vote distribution. A realistic shift would require either unusually low Democratic turnout or an unforeseen consolidation of Republican support behind Sullivan that overcomes Peltola’s structural advantages in the ranked-choice environment.
