President Trump launched Project Freedom in early May 2026 as a U.S. military escort operation for commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing Iran conflict and blockade. He paused the initiative days later to allow space for finalizing a peace agreement, while keeping the naval blockade in place. Ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations, including recent responses to peace proposals and requests from third countries, remain the central driver of current market pricing. Traders are assessing whether diplomatic progress holds through the end of May or stalls, which would likely trigger resumption of guided transits. No restart has been announced, and resolution hinges on verifiable official statements from the administration or military by the deadline.
