Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble models indicate Chicago's September 23 high will likely peak in the mid-60s°F under persistent northeast flow and partial cloud cover, keeping readings below the late-September climatological average of 73°F. This pattern stems from a stable high-pressure ridge directing cooler maritime air across the southern Great Lakes, limiting daytime heating and suppressing the usual southerly advection of warmer air. Minor forecast spread arises from the precise timing of any afternoon clearing or slight wind shifts that could add or subtract 1–2°F, producing the tight clustering of market-implied probabilities around the 62–67°F bins. Updated model runs and NWS briefings through September 22 will refine the exact maximum before resolution.
