Rastislav Trnka, the incumbent Košice Region governor since 2017, holds the strongest position in the October 24, 2026, election as an independent candidate. Recent polling aggregates and simulations place him at roughly 44 percent support with a 72 percent implied win probability, driven by his record on regional infrastructure, health, and education projects plus emphasis on local autonomy from national party centers. A broad opposition coalition backing Marián Porvažník has consolidated several center-right and liberal parties, yielding him second place near 27 percent, while Igor Šimko’s grouping of Hlas-SD, Smer-SD, and smaller allies trails around 17 percent. Candidate lists closed on August 25 with six contenders total, and no major shifts have altered the frontrunner’s lead in the past month. Trader pricing on the market reflects this polling hierarchy and the structural advantage of incumbency in Slovak regional contests.
