Michigan's 7th congressional district stands as one of the most competitive House races in the 2026 cycle, rated a toss-up by Cook Political Report and Inside Elections while Decision Desk HQ lists it Lean Democratic. The even partisan voter index and narrow 2024 presidential margin have drawn heavy outside spending and positioned the seat as a key battleground for House control. Incumbent Republican Tom Barrett faces Democrat William Lawrence, who won his party's August 4 primary after a surge by progressive organizers. Recent polling shows the general election contest remaining tight, with trader consensus reflecting the district's swing character, Barrett's incumbency, and Lawrence's activist profile as the primary variables shaping implied probabilities ahead of the November 3 vote.
