Recent Federal Reserve policy has emerged as the dominant influence on gold (XAUUSD), with the September 16 decision to raise the federal funds rate 25 basis points to the 3.75-4.00% range and updated dot plots signaling at least one additional hike by year-end. This hawkish stance, aimed at persistent inflation above the 2% target, has supported a firmer dollar and elevated Treasury yields, increasing the opportunity cost for non-yielding assets like gold. Spot prices stabilized near $4,378 per ounce after an initial post-meeting dip, aided by declining oil prices that eased near-term inflation pressures. Multiple FOMC speakers scheduled for the week of September 21, alongside data releases such as new home sales, will provide further clarity on the rate path and could drive short-term volatility in XAUUSD.
