Dennis Weilmann secured an absolute majority with 50.1 percent of the vote in the September 13, 2026, Wolfsburg mayoral election, eliminating the need for a runoff and driving near-certain trader consensus on his victory. As the CDU incumbent since 2021, he outperformed a fragmented field that included Karsten Schneider (SPD) at 15.5 percent, Thomas Schlick (AfD) at 14.1 percent, and lower shares for other candidates such as Andreas Klaffehn, Marco Meiners, and Jens Hortmeyer. Voter turnout reached 58.2 percent amid local economic pressures tied to Volkswagen. The outcome aligns with his established record on city-VW cooperation and diversification efforts. While final certification or unforeseen legal challenges could theoretically intervene, the preliminary results and margin make such shifts highly improbable.
