Ramzan Kadyrov, head of the Chechen Republic since 2007, remains in office ahead of the September 18–20, 2026, regional election where United Russia has formally nominated him for another term with Kremlin backing. Vladimir Putin publicly endorsed his candidacy during an April 2026 Kremlin meeting. Persistent reports of declining health—marked by sharply reduced public appearances, mobility issues, and reliance on family support in mid-2026—have fueled succession speculation around his son Adam and other figures. These factors sustain low implied probabilities on short-term removal markets, as traders weigh institutional continuity and federal alignment against unconfirmed health pressures, with the election outcome serving as the next major test of stability.
