Sam Liccardo, the Democratic incumbent representing Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, dominated the June 2, 2026, top-two primary with roughly 75 percent of the vote, advancing comfortably to the general election. Peter Soule secured the second spot over fellow Republican Kevin Johnson by a narrow margin of about 11 percent to 10 percent, while independent Jotham Stein finished far behind. These results align with the district's strong Democratic tilt and limited Republican field, leaving little uncertainty once final tallies are certified. Traders monitoring the market focus on any remaining procedural steps for confirmation rather than shifts in candidate positioning.
